WHY EVERY AUTHOR NEEDS A QUALIFIED EDITOR.
The market is saturated with indie published titles. What will make yours stand out from the crowd? What will help protect you from harsh reviews? What will stop returns? What will ensure you look professional and are taking your storytelling seriously? EDITING.
Having your book edited by a highly qualified, experienced and dedicated editor can mean the difference between hitting those bestseller lists and floundering at the bottom of an ocean made up of over 2 million books and counting.
An editor isn't just a person who corrects your spelling, tidies your grammar, and tells you how wonderful you are, or at least, this one isn't.
I am an editor who hears your voice and works with it; who respects your story and your world; I fall in love with your characters with the same intensity and passion as you. I offer you commentary, encouragement and truthful, constructive feedback, all with the single purpose of pushing you to be the very best you, and your story, can be. I respect your ambition and aspiration enough to help you grow and improve.
With my traditional academic and scholarly background, my years of experience teaching English in a London comprehensive school, being an author and publisher, and being an almost obsessive reader of genre fiction, I am strongly positioned to understand not only how texts work on a linguistic and stylistic level, but how stories and voice connect to readers.

WHO AM I TO EDIT YOUR BOOK?

A fair and very important question.
Firstly, "Hi!" My name is Katie and I am:
As you can see, I live, breathe, and love, all things book.
I have a BA (Hons), an MA, and a PGCE in English. I was a secondary school teacher of English for fourteen years, and am now a full time author and editor. I am the author of 9 YA novels (and counting). I have spent most of my life reading, studying and exploring the English and American classic and contemporary canons, and in more recent years, I have indulged in my passion for genre fiction.
My background in education has equipped me with highly developed critique and formative feedback skills - in other words, I'm a marking expert. I make no apologies for being hard on you, but I'm also kind, funny, and want the very best for you and your book. I'll also teach you all about that pesky Oxford Comma.
As Founder of the boutique publishing house, Little Bird Publishing House, I have worked closely with many authors on every stage of their publication journey, including full developmental, revision and final edits. I have also edited and published four collaborative anthologies. Several Little Bird authors have gone on to gain prestigious nominations and awards such as becoming The Kindle Book Review Finalists, and Alison Clarke's series 'The Sisterhood', led to her being awarded Black Writer of The Year Award by Canadian Diversity Magazine.
My first Elixir client, Sloane Murphy, author of 'The Immortals' Chronicles', achieved a coveted No.1 Amazon bestseller orange flag on launch day, and has since gone on to be nominated for 'The Golden Rose Award' as part of a prestigious association for Vampire Literature, Film, and T.V.
I have read, studied, and still read, ALL genres. Although I write mainly YA Contemporary Fantasy, I have a love and deep knowledge of the following genres; horror, romance, YA, Contemporary, post-modern, transgressive, magic realism, paranormal, erotica, dystopia, political, crime, historical, and autobiography.
Admittedly, I'm not so clued up on old school sci-fi, as that comes with a whole complex world and language that although aware of, I'm not familiar with. If you write old school alien, space, sci-fi, I'm probably not your girl.
